Wayne Rooney on the Brink of Staying at Manchester United?

The Mirror is reporting that Wayne Rooney, the supposedly want-away Manchester United forward, perhaps isn't so keen on a move away from the Red Devils as we all might have believed.
Apparently Rooney is adamant that no transfer request was ever formally submitted in writing to the club, and that any negative comments about him leaving the champions were more thoughts that were spoken out loud.
The 27-year-old is going to sit down with United officials this week, including new boss David Moyes, to see if he and the club can come to an agreement.
This meeting will effectively determine whether or not Rooney will be wearing the famous red of Manchester next season, or whether he will move on to another club after eight years of dedicated service.
One thing that the Liverpudlian wants to make painstakingly clear is that he doesn't want to be used as a scapegoat for the controversy, should he decide to stay at the club.
A few years back, Rooney seemed to be leaving United for their cross-city rivals. Eventually this dispute was settled, but with the concluding factor for the uproar being hasty and immature actions on the part of the striker.
This time around Rooney wants to make it clear that it was Sir Alex's fault for publicly announcing that the player wanted to leave the club, despite nor formal transfer request to back this up.
It is understandable that at this point Rooney would have been left in a near impossible position, with the world believing that he was on his way out of the club.
With several of the world's elite clubs ready to pounce and snap up the England forward, Moyes is going to have to make his first real impact on the club as manager and try his darnedest to convince Rooney to stay.
Moyes has of course managed Rooney before. The two teamed up over a decade ago at Everton, and it was under Moyes that Rooney got his first real breakthrough in the game.
Hopefully for Rooney fans this former alliance will make the making up process considerably easier.
It appears then as though we may know the fate of one Mr. Wayne Mark Rooney by as early as this time next week.
Whether he stays or goes, this is a blessing for Moyes, who needs to turn his attention away from the mini-crisis within the club and onto signing new players to keep up with their Premier League rivals.
If Rooney does stay, however, then that will only add as an extra incentive for the likes of Thiago Alcantara and Kevin Strootman to join the English title holders.
