Real Madrid Transfers: 5 Most Likely Arrivals Before the Summer Window Shuts

0 of 5

Real Madrid's transfer activity this summer has seen four players join the club. There's a good possibility that one or two more players will arrive before the transfer window ends.

Unless Carlo Ancelotti decides to provide younger players with more game time, a forward replacement may be needed for Gonzalo Higuain, while another defender could ease any fears over injuries to Sergio Ramos, Pepe or Raphael Varane.

Luis Suarez is one name that has been linked to the squad, and recent movements in the transfer window suggest other options are available.

Whether these players are wary of incoming competition, simply want to leave their current club or are enticed by the lure of Real Madrid, they could all be set for a summer move to the Bernabeu.

Here are the five most likely targets to arrive in the Spanish capital before the transfer window shuts.

Nemanja Matic

According to the Metro, Madrid is in a battle with Chelsea to sign Nemanja Matic.

The quartet of Xabi Alonso, Sami Khedira, Luka Modric and Asier Illarramendi give Carlo Ancelotti great options for the double pivot in a 4-2-3-1 formation.

If Ancelotti feels more midfield reinforcement is needed in order to use a different tactical setup, he could look to the Serbian midfielder.

Benfica coach Jorge Jesus recently told Benfica TV (h/t Sky Sports) that the club will find it hard to hold onto Matic.

Luis Suarez

Though the Mirror recently reported that Arsenal is leading the race to sign Luis Suarez, Madrid should still be favourites.

Suarez has stated in the past that he wants to leave England, and that's what Madrid would allow him to do. The possible sale of Gonzalo Higuain would give Madrid more money to spend, and the Spanish side will be more than willing to splash the cash if it comes to a bidding war.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic

Real Madrid has been linked, via the Express, with a move for Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

The Swedish forward is reportedly unhappy at Paris Saint-Germain's recent capture of Edinson Cavani, and could follow Carlo Ancelotti to Madrid.

As with Suarez, any potential move by Madrid for Ibrahimovic will likely come down to whether or not Gonzalo Higuain leaves the club.

Should that happen, Ibrahimovic will likely be one of Madrid's top targets.

Sergio Aguero

Considering the recent news involving his club's activity in the transfer market, Sergio Aguero may be looking to leave Manchester City this summer.

The BBC reports that Alvaro Negredo has signed for the Citizens, and that Stevan Jovetic has signed as well. The Argentinian striker has until now been considered a first-team player for the club, but will face tough competition from these new signings.

Danny Griffiths of the Metro writes that Real Madrid is getting ready to make a bid for the Argentinian striker.

Aguero's second season at City didn't provide the highlights that the 2011/12 campaign did, as he scored only 17 goals in 40 games for the club. ESPN FC reported last year that Aguero would have joined Madrid had they pursued him.

If Madrid do show real interest this summer, they may have a good chance at signing Aguero.

Marco Verratti

Marco Verratti told Il Centro (h/t Sky Sports) that there are a number of clubs interested in his signature. With Carlo Ancelotti in charge of the club, Real Madrid is sure to be one of the clubs on that list.

Speaking to French site 10 Sport (h/t ESPN FC), Verratti's agent stated that his player could be interested in a move to Real Madrid if his former boss, Ancelotti, comes calling.

Verratti would have plenty of competition for a spot at Madrid, but his history with Ancelotti would mean he gets a decent amount of playing time. He may be the least likely option on this list, but he is a possibility.
