It seems Real Madrid has not forgotten about Geoffrey Kondogbia. The arrival of Illarramendi put negotiations on hold. The player's agent and father travelled to London to talk to other clubs that wanted to sign the player. However, they kept 'Los Blancos' in mind, after reaching an agreement for the midfielder – as revealed by MARCA on 16th April.

In the last few days, Real Madrid is back on the attack and it now seems the club wants to seal a deal in the coming hours. The club will pay ¤15 million to Sevilla and The Doyen Group – the private investment firm which owns 50% of the player's economic rights.

Real will then have to decide what to do with the recently crowned under-20 World champion. The club does not currently have space in the squad for the Frenchman, meaning that a season-long loan-move could be on the cards, either back to Sevilla or another club.

Real is eager to close the deal, as the club believes he is an evolving player whose value will continue to increase. Kondogbia is not against the idea of staying and fighting for a place in the team, even though his initial idea – before the departures of Navas and Negredo – was to continue gaining experience at Sevilla. The player believes he can challenge anybody for a position, but Real will have to release one of its midfielders if the Frenchman signs.
