Gareth Bale was hoping Daniel Levy would keep his word and accept Real Madrid's staggering offer of £80 million (¤93 million). However, the Tottenham Chairman's refusal to sell the star player means the Welshman could refuse to play for the London side again.
Bale's mysterious injury last week, which ruled him out of Tottenham's friendlies in Asia, was not a physical problem but a message to Levy to make him negotiate with Real.
A British newspaper reported yesterday that Bale has no injury, although he is in low spirits, as he is currently 8,756 miles from London – the same distance that separates the Welshman from Los Angeles, where his future team is initiating its pre-season tour.
Levy, who tested Real Madrid directors' patience to the limit during negotiations for Modric last summer, is determined to obtain a six-figure sum for Bale.
Meanwhile, 'Spurs' fans seem to accept that their star player will be on his way out, as they know that Tottenham cannot compete with the giants of European football.
Bale’s signing has also become a personal matter for Florentino Pérez.
Summer earnings at the Santiago Bernabéu have tallied up. The club has earned the most so far - ¤65 million in sales and add-ons, with ¤10 million still to come in from Manchester United for Garay, plus whatever it makes for the sale of Coentrao.
