De Gea set for World Cup call-up after Valdes is ruled out for six months with cruciate injury
Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea is on World Cup alert after it was confirmed Victor Valdes will be out for six months with a serious knee injury.
The Barcelona goalkeeper was taken straight for hospital tests after injuring himself in the team’s 3-0 win over Celta Vigo and the club confirmed last night he has torn cruciate ligaments and will need surgery.
The six-month minimum recovery time for such injuries means Barcelona’s number two goalkeeper definitely misses out on this seasons’ tournament in Brazil and Spain’s Under-21 first choice keeper heads the list of possible replacements.

The Barça stopper said: 'David is a great keeper, especially when you think how young he. I think he will be one of the best for many years.'
