‘Arsenal are not as bad as everyone thinks’, says Wenger

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger rounded on the club's critics after the 1-1 draw with Manchester City and claimed they "are not as bad as everybody thinks".

The Gunners concluded a nightmare seven days on a slight high as they came back from a goal down to hold their fellow title rivals at the Emirates and keep alive their slim hopes of lifting the Premier League championship.

The performance was in stark contrast to last Saturday's horror show at Chelsea, where Arsenal lost 6-0 and the disappointing 2-2 draw with Swansea mid-week.

Asked about their chances of title success and holding off the threat of Everton stealing the last Champions League spot, Wenger said: "We continue to look above and behind us. I'm very proud of the performance of the players and overall it was a good one.

"Since the start of the season this team has shown a lot of spirit. You forget that first of all we have played a very difficult Champions League game.

"We just went out against Bayern with ten men, that we are in the semi-final of a cup (FA Cup against Wigan) and that we are still are fighting at the top in the Premier League. So we are not as bad as everybody thinks because we have shown remarkable consistency.

"Tottenham, Liverpool and Everton aren't in the FA Cup so that means this team has shown quality and we have some players out. I would like to see Manchester City today without [Vincent] Kompany, without Yaya Toure and without [David] Silva and go into a game of that stature, so we've been a bit unlucky as well."
