Steven Gerrard is guiding Liverpool to the Premier League trophy but he has already lifted the title... for Everton!

His blood may run the deepest shade of red, but this was the day young Steven Gerrard got his hands on the Championship trophy and made his Liverpool-loving parents feel oh, so blue.

After winning a competition in 1987, Gerrard’s uncle Leslie took Stevie - then seven - to Goodison Park to have his photo taken with the trophy and the Charity Shield. Leslie even bought his nephew a new Everton kit for the photo shoot.

‘Dad went ballistic,’ said Gerrard. ‘Disowning me must have crossed his mind.’

Now, 27 years on, Gerrard may be only a couple of weeks from getting his hands back on the silverware.

The Liverpool skipper looked relaxed in training ahead of the Sunday's potential title decider against Chelsea.

Manager Brendan Rodgers put his side through their paces, but also had time to share a joke with his captain.

Talisman Luis Suarez was also in high spirits, smiling as he took on a training drill.

The Reds have reason to smile as a win will move them one step closer to an incredible title triumph.

Liverpool stand five points clear of Chelsea, and a further one ahead of Manchester City, who have a game in hand.

Jose Mourinho is likely to name a weakened line-up with one eye on Wednesday's Champions League semi-final second leg against Atletico Madrid.

One former Blues star Kopites will be eager to see in action is Daniel Sturridge.

The England striker missed last weekend's win over Norwich with a hamstring injury but is keen on his chances of featuring on Sunday.

And Sturridge, who moved to Anfield from Chelsea in January 2013, says he will celebrate if he nets against the Blues.

The 24-year-old said: 'I would like to show respect to my former club but if I were to come on and score in the last minute I'm going to be on a mad one, aren't I?

'I don't know if I could control myself if that happened.'
