Everton vs. Arsenal: Winners and Losers from Premier League Game

A roller-coaster ride at Goodison Park earlier on Saturday finished 2-2, with Arsenal mounting a late comeback to peg back Everton in unlikely circumstances.

Seamus Coleman put the home side ahead before Steven Naismith doubled the advantage, as the Gunners looked down and out by half-time. But Olivier Giroud provided much-needed spark and ingenuity after coming on at the break, helping stage a retort that culminated in him heading home a goal to rescue a point.

Who are the winners and losers from this game?

Seamus Coleman missed the Premier League opener, and John Stones played in his place, meaning the decision to restore the Irishman meant he was expected to play at full throttle.

Bar one exceptionally rogue pass in the first half, actually teeing up Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain for a shot outside the box, he played very well and scored his first goal of the season.

Seamus Goalman, as some call him, is already on his way to a tally in excess of five.

It's been a fantastic few maiden weeks for Calum Chambers at Arsenal, but this match at Goodison Park showed he still has a long way to come.

He's young, just 19 years of age, so that's absolutely OK, but he has to go down as a loser with his performance today.

He played everyone onside for Seamus Coleman's opener, got drawn into several rash fouls outside the penalty box and dove in inexplicably on Romelu Lukaku for Steven Naismith's strike.

Everton's holding midfield setup, consisting of Gareth Barry and James McCarthy, were absolutely spectacular once again.

The acquisition of Muhamed Besic in the summer has brought their game to another level, with McCarthy in particular rising to the challenge here.

They bottled up and beat Arsenal's midfield all game long, giving Aaron Ramsey and Co. absolutely no room to breathe.

His team saved him through individual quality here, but there's no way to excuse Arsene Wenger for his actions—or lack of action.

Playing Mesut Ozil on the left wing against Seamus Coleman? Repeating your own mistakes. Playing Jack Wilshere in a who-knows-what-that-was role? Confusing and infuriating, to say the least.

The formation was wrong, the personnel choices were wrong and Wenger is lucky Olivier Giroud saved him. 

Roberto Martinez has now overseen two 90-minute spells in which his side were by far the better team, yet he only has two points to show for it.

Scored four, conceded four; two leads taken, two leads lost. Everton were at their best in the final 10 minutes last season, winning 15 points and dropping just one, according to Bleacher Report's Matt Cheetham. But they're already ruing four points missed at this early stage.

As positive and strong as Everton have looked, this is the reason many believe fifth is their ceiling.

Arsenal were poor with Jack Wilshere on the pitch and significantly better without him. After he was substituted in the 74th minute, the Gunners dominated and found two goals to force a draw.

The truth is, there's no room for Wilshere in the current Arsenal setup. His presence in the side today forced Arsene Wenger to play Mesut Ozil wide where he was woeful (again), and Wilshere himself did little to inspire confidence.

He's too similar to Aaron Ramsey stylistically, and Ramsey is currently far, far better. Wilshere needs to duck out of the side and find some composure.
