Arsenal and Manchester United splashed the cash this summer, with big-money signings Alexis Sanchez and Angel Di Maria catching the eye.
The pair are set to go head-to-head this evening at the Emirates, but who will come out on top?
Both players have enjoyed impressive starts for their respective clubs, but according to the stats, Arsenal’s Sanchez has been the better signing.
The Chilean may have played twice as many matches as his Argentine counterpart, but he’s already scored four times as many goals for his new club, with 12 strikes in 18 appearances, including six in his last four games.
This means Sanchez averages a goal every 1.5 outings, while for Di Maria, it’s a goal every three games, with three in his first nine.
And as a return on the summer investment, Arsenal already look to have done an excellent piece of business.
The Gunners handed over £30m to Barcelona, with that so far equating to £2.5m per goal.
United, meanwhile, forked out a whopping £59.7m for Di Maria’s services, meaning each of his goals have so far cost them £19.9m.
Di Maria does however pip Sanchez in terms of assists, with five to his counterpart’s three so far this term, while the former Real Madrid man also gets off more shots per game, averaging 3.4 attempts in each of his matches, compared to Sanchez’s three.
There’s little doubt both players are outstanding additions to their respective sides, but so far this season the Gunners look to have pulled off a shrewder piece of business with the acquisition of Sanchez.
But all that could change come 5:30 tonight.
