Danny Welbeck has scored five goals in his last four England games, playing alongside Wayne Rooney up front. With Olivier Giroud returning to fitness, Arsene Wenger should consider playing them together.

Welbeck would be wasted if he was forced to play on the wing, especially after finding his form as a striker.

Whilst both players are capable of playing as a lone striker, you can see how both would benefit from a striking partner.

When a team plays with two strikers, one, or both need to be capable of dropping into the midfield now and then. Giroud’s support play make him perfect for a slightly deeper role, allowing Welbeck to use his pace and work off him. Welbeck’s attributes, namely his work-rate means he is also capable of performing in a deeper role.

Giroud is a very talented striker, but his lack of pace restricts the effectiveness of Arsenal’s attack when he starts as a lone striker. Alongside Welbeck, the Frenchman’s strengths would be complemented by the English forwards tireless attitude and pace.

With the Gunners failing to score enough goals to see out games at the moment, it may time to re-structure the front-line.

Alexis Sanchez could play behind Welbeck and Giroud to form a devastating attack. The trio would provide plenty of pace, skill, energy, power and goals.

With Sanchez shining in the number 10 role recently, it would be difficult to keep him in this position and play with two strikers. What Wenger could consider is playing a diamond formation. This would accommodate Arsenal’s best players perfectly, with our most natural winger Theo Walcott looking to develop into a central striker. The other players who normally play wide like Santi Cazorla and Lukas Podolski would also be more comfortable in central positions.
