11 Bizarre Transfer Stories Involving Newcastle United

Andy Cole made Newcastle wait so he could complete his laundry. Seriously.

Andy Cole Laundrette Sometimes facts are stranger than fiction, and when it comes to a good transfer saga, anything can happen. We've seen players turn up at clubs they supposedly aren't even in talks with live on Sky Sports News, we've seen players supposedly definitely not going anywhere being flown out by helicopter at the last minute by the club that definitely doesn't want to sell them: it's a funny old game for sure. With Newcastle being the soap opera/gold fish bowl club it is so infamously billed as, the silly transfer stories and rumours have been more regular than we'd probably care to admit, and while sometimes there are undoubtedly untruths involved, sometimes those seemingly ludicrous moments are completely true...

11. Newcastle Tried To Sell Jack Colback Before He Even Played

The Claim When Newcastle-supporting Sunderland player Jack Colback was on the verge of swapping Wearside for Tyneside, he had his head turned by West Ham, who tried to convince him with a big contract offer. Realising the pressure he was putting himself under by joining his current club's rival, he tried to pull out of the controversial move and join Big Sam's revolution. Sadly for him, the deal was done, but Newcastle apparently sportingly offered West Ham the chance to sign Colback for £5m if they really wanted him. The Truth Who knows? Maybe Colback did have a change of heart, and maybe the deal was delayed for that reason, but it could have just been smoke and mirrors by his representatives to get a wage bump. And while the sell-on sounds like silliness, you really wouldn't put it past Ashley, even if it was designed only to get West Ham to back off.
