Exclusive – Carrick warns Man United’s top four rivals: ‘We’re not done yet’

Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick claims the club’s renaissance is not over yet - with the Red Devils clicking into gear at just the right time.

Louis van Gaal’s side have been in the fortunate position of securing points with below-par performances over the last few months, as they target a top three position in the Premier League table.

Many fans were unsure how to judge the Dutchman, following his arrival last summer, with supporters pleased to be in the race for a Champions League spot next season, but unhappy about the style of United’s play.

Those worries have been put to bed over the last nine days as the club has picked up maximum points with superb showings against Tottenham and Liverpool, two of their main rivals for a place at Europe’s top table.

And Carrick admits it took time for the United squad to get to grips with Van Gaal’s requirements.

“There has been a process this year,” he told Drivetime. “The manager has come in and he’s got a way of doing things and a way he wants to play.

“There was a slight change in the way he wanted us to play, in terms of the tactics and the style of play.

“We’ve probably started to fulfil our potential over the last week or so.

“The last two performances have been our best of the season probably, especially the Tottenham match and the first half against Liverpool. It’s brilliant for us and helps with confidence.

“There’s a good feeling again around the club. The club is going in the right direction, which we always believed it would do.

“We always believed we’d get there and I don’t believe we’re finished yet. We believe we’re doing the right things.

“There were a few frustrating results along the way that held us back a little bit, but we’ve come through that and we’re looking forward.”
