Manchester United striker Radamel Falcao temporarily silenced his doubters as he bagged a brace for Colombia on Thursday.

The 29-year-old found the net twice in a four-minute spell during the first half of his country's 6-0 friendly win over Bahrain.

His first strike was a cool left-footed volley, after letting the ball drop over his shoulder.

With the goals, Falcao has now scored just as many goals for Colombia as he has done for United since the start of 2015.

The striker has only scored twice for United since the turn of the year, with strikes against Stoke and Leicester.

But he has looked back to his best after less than a half of football with his international team-mates, which was only his fourth international appearance since missing last summer's World Cup.

And news of the goals has been greeted with excitement by United fans on social media, who hope that their revitalised striker could now fire them as high as second in the table.

Before the game, Colombia boss Jose Pekerman said that the Falcao's form needed to be turned on its head - and he believed that he was the man to restore confidence in the front man's game.

He said: "I feel I need to support him because I understand how hard it is for him and the difficult moment he is experiencing. I want to work with him again and help him restore his confidence.

"I know Falcao's strengths, his mentality and his fighting spirit, and I've never doubted that he'll come out the other side.

"He's in a bad moment, but he's looking after himself and this week is going to be very important for him."

But Pekerman refused to criticise Louis van Gaal for the failings of Falcao in the Premier League.

He said: "Of course, on a human level I'm on Falcao's side because I know that he's suffering and he deserves the opportunity to work better and to have his chance to show that he's okay. But it's not my job to judge the decisions of another coach."

But former Colombian footballer Faustino Asprilla tweeted that Pekerman should teach Van Gaal how to work.
