Simeone pleased with Atleti response

Diego Simeone was pleased with Atletico Madrid’s response to going a goal down following their ‘crazy’ 2-2 draw with Malaga in La Liga on Saturday.

Despite taking an early lead through Antoine Griezmann, the Spanish champions were eventually forced to wipe out a 2-1 deficit at La Rosaleda, with the winger cancelling out a Fernando Torres own goal and Samu Garcia.

“The match went through different stages,” the Coach said after the match.

“In the first half, we could have done much more damage than we did, but a new game started after [Malaga] equalised.

“Malaga did very well on the counterattack and went 2-1 up. The match became more difficult in the second half, but we gave a very good response.

“Towards the end, we took more control the game. Malaga are a competitive team, with expectations and very interesting attackers.

“Their quality appeared in the second half in the form of players like [Nordin] Amrabat, Samu Castillejo and Juanmi, but it’s still an important point for us.

“I don’t like playing in games which don’t suit us because we have more responsibilities than Malaga and the crazy nature of the game suited them more.”
