Fresh from his brace in PSG’s 4-0 French League Cup final triumph on Saturday night, Edinson Cavani is, according to the Sunday Express, headed for a move to Old Trafford in the summer.
The newspaper reports, in an ‘exclusive’, that Manchester United have already opened talks with their Parisian counterparts over a big-money move to the Premier League, with PSG eager to recoup the £55m they paid Napoli for the Uruguayan.
Despite his two-goal cameo appearance against Bastia on Saturday, the 28-year-old has struggled to find his best form in Paris. Indeed, the striker has tended to be utilised in wide role by PSG boss Laurent Blanc (with whom Cavani has a difficult relationship), with main man Zlatan Ibrahimovic taking centre stage, both on and off the pitch.
As for Man Utd, Louis van Gaal is apparently eager to get rid of the misfiring Radamel Falcao, the ageing Robin Van Persie and Real Madrid loanee Javier Hernandez, with those departures leaving a rather big hole in the Red Devils’ attacking options.
Cavani will want A-grade wages, but this won’t be a problem to United, who have seen fit to pay Falcao £265,000 a week for the very occasional goal and not much else.
So file this one under ‘a distinct possibility’. Although expect a whole lot of hair envy from Wayne Rooney if Cavani does end up at Old Trafford.
