Toby Alderweireld suffering with broken shoulder bone

Toby Alderweireld is stretchered off during his side's loss against Stoke
Alderweireld feared he could miss the remainder of the season after suffering the injury

Southampton defender Toby Alderweireld has revealed he played with a broken bone in his shoulder in his side's 2-2 draw against Spurs on Saturday.

The 26-year-old Belgian international was stretchered off after a fall during last week's loss against Stoke.

But he is keen to help his side achieve European qualification.

"The game was hell. I was in so much pain. There is a little bone broken, but my desire to play was so big," he told BBC Radio Solent.

"I did everything I could to play and gave my all for Southampton even with a broken bone."

Alderweireld revealed he had seen a specialist, who told him "nothing can happen, it's only pain management and how far you can go".

The result left Saints in seventh place, but only a single point behind both Liverpool and Tottenham

Asked about their prospects of a place in Europe next season, he added: "We're are going to try, we played good football today and that gives us confidence.

"We will recover this week and then go at it with the full 100%."
