Guti ‘surprised’ at Chicharito

Former Real Madrid midfielder Guti says he is surprised at how Javier ‘Chicharito’ Hernandez has performed in recent weeks.

The on-loan Manchester United man scored a brace in Madrid’s 4-2 win over Celta Vigo at the weekend – adding to his match-winning goal in the Champions League quarter-final against Atletico Madrid last week – and Guti acknowledged he has been amazed after the way in which the Mexican struggled to get into the Madrid starting line-up this season..

“It’s a joy that after so much time Chicharito has not let his head drop,” the 38-year-old told El Chiringuito.

“For me it has been amazing. When I saw him at Manchester United he was a player who got into the area and was always there.

“I’ve been surprised at his control and how he has played out wide. He has improved a lot and has done very well for Real Madrid in recent games.

“There have been moves where he could have gone it alone but he is playing more for the team than himself.”

Guti also believes Cristiano Ronaldo is happy in the Spanish capital and feels he is concentrating on even more success with Los Blancos.

“I see Cristiano as really happy and when Chicharito scored against Atletico Madrid he made gestures of affection.

“He is focusing on what is a very important time for Madrid and knows he must win things.”
