Carlisle United's 779-mile midweek round trip to Plymouth is "not fair" on their supporters, according to Argyle manager Derek Adams.

"It's not fair on the supporters, having to travel long distances on a Tuesday night," Adams told BBC Devon.

"You can tell the computer system that and the computer system won't listen. It's not up to individuals."

Scotsman Adams is no stranger to travelling himself, taking over at Britain's most southerly professional club having previously managed Scotland's most northerly top-tier side, Ross County.

"It's a computer that obviously gives out the fixtures and it's disappointing because Carlisle will not want to travel on a Tuesday night," added Adams.

"The supporters will find it very difficult to get here, and likewise when we go away from home on a Tuesday evening to some places, our fans have found it very difficult."

Plymouth's return trip to Brunton Park is on 2 January, meaning journeys for players and some fans on New Year's Day.

Despite showing sympathy towards Carlisle fans, Adams says their opponents will have to cope with the trip.

"We've got long journeys as well, so that's just the nature of the league - everybody's used to it and everybody gets on with it."
