Former United and Everton boss David Moyes has been linked with a return to the dugout for the match.

And fans are also hoping to see Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo, who spent six years with the club, at Old Trafford again.

United blog The Peoples Person said: "It’ll be very interesting to see who turns up for it because Cristiano Ronaldo is one player who’d Rooney, and the fans, would love to see back at Old Trafford in a United shirt again.

"As for the other players who’ve played with Rooney, take your pick: Roy Keane, Paul Scholes, Ryan Giggs, Ruud van Nistelrooy… He could make one hell of a team for the testimonial."
