Leicester City: Premier League 'table' over past 38 games

Leicester opened the gap at the top of the Premier League to five points at the weekend with a 1-0 win at Watford

"Leicester - a great story but they'll never keep this up over the course of a whole season."

The suspicion has lingered throughout this campaign that the Foxes' remarkable run cannot be sustained over the course of a 38-game Premier League season. But the evidence suggests otherwise.

It is now 38 matches - nine last season and 29 this - since then bottom-of-the-table Leicester ended a sequence of five defeats and two draws with a 2-1 home victory over West Ham on 4 April.

They have not looked back since, winning 24 of those 38 fixtures. Of their previous 29 top-flight games after earning promotion in 2014, they had won just four.

So how does the Premier League top 10 look over that 38-game period?

Leicester, five points clear in this season's real standings, find themselves even further ahead at the top of the table, with an 11-point lead over Manchester City.

And what about the bottom of the table? Aston Villa, Newcastle and Sunderland are a long away adrift.

Note: Tables only include teams who played in the Premier League in both the 2014-15 and 2015-16 seasons.

    Surely every non-Arsenal, Spurs or City fan is truly hoping that Leicester get the job done.

    You can throw your toys out and go off to your 'European Super League', but THIS is what football is all about.

    I hope they do it. A real shot in the arm for the game if they do as it has become incredibly boring to see the battle of the cheque book season after season.

    If Leicester win the title this season it will prove that money can buy you great players but not a great team. Man U should take notice.

    As a Leicester fan, I can say I've never been so proud. Even if we don't win the league I will still remember this season for all the right reasons.

    We are proof that you can buy a side but you can't buy a team.

    #2. Speaking as a lifelong Spurs fan, I of course want Tottenham to win it, but for sure, if they can't find a way (and I'll admit they are running out of opportunities to close the gap) then I really hope Leicester hang on for the title. We all love an underdog.

    Leicester are a great example of a talented and pragmatic manager developing tactics to get the best from a good but not outstanding squad. Each player is then playing a role they can fulfil (and haven't they just).

    A refreshing change from the managerial 'have to play 4-3-3 / 4-2-3-1 / my philosophy' ego trip where you have to spend a fortune to play a certain way and still fall short.

    One of your 5Live presenters on Saturday called this "the Premier League no one wants to win"

    Are they sure about that?

    Perhaps they should have said "the best and most exciting PL season yet"

    But then again, the same presenter was trying to shoe BBC United into the title race so I guess that should have given me a hint!

    LCFC are the perfect example of a TEAM, they work hard for each other, are totally committed and have that all important 'desire'. Add to that a very experienced and astute manager and barring injuries they should now (please God) see it through. Sadly, this team will probably be ravaged in the summer, but here's hoping it might happen for another 'underdog' next season...

    Only brain-dead people think they can generalise the thoughts and feelings of an entire nation, particularly when the subject matter is entirely subjective. You are entitled to your opinion but calling everyone dumb because they have a differing opinion to you does not make you right, just stupid!

    Harsh, Pearson shouldn't be forgotten, but to Ranieri deserves much praise for getting this squad of players to a likely CL spot and dare I say it with fear of jinxing them the PL title

    I'm a Palace fan if we have enough points to avoid drop would be happy to lose to Leicester City, Ranieri such a lovely man, your favourite uncle, has shown that he is a much better manager than Murinio he didn't have to spend £millions to buy the Premier League.
    Let's hope the team stick together and we can see how they do in the Chamions League

    This is the best thing that has happened to football in a long, long time - Leicester have done in on a comparative shoe string. Well done also to West Ham who Bilic seems to have really turned around and Stoke also deserve a mention.

    The difference between Leicester, Arsenal an Man City is that Leicester don't have to win the league! We've done it on a shoe string, starting 11 rarely costs as must as one of their 'big' players and yet we've been top for a fair while, 5 points clear today and only bested 3 times in 29 matches. We are Leicester City, if we win the league, amazing, if we don't, there's no shame on us! COYB!

    With the form of the European Exhibition League clubs and Leicester's points advantage, the title could be won in 5 or 6 games. Let all the so called 'Big 5' go and lose to Real Madrid and Barcelona every week across the globe while we have a football renaissance at home. Meanwhile cant wait to hear Hodgeson's defence of Rooney (7 EPL goals (1 pen) - none against the top 5)

    Leicester are fantastic and I wish them all the best.

    However it also highlights the state of the so called big 5 clubs in England who have been an embarassment in european competition for a good few years and now they are getting found out in the Premier league. One thing money can't buy is passion and Leicester have that in abundance!!!!!

    Let's admit it, as neutrals, we all want Leicester to do it. It frustrates me that so many bitter fans of the big teams come onto HYS to complain. Accept it: hard work not hundreds of millions of pounds will win the PL this season

    Can you imagine Carpi topping Serie A? Darmstadt topping the Bundesliga? Gazelec Ajaccio topping Ligue 1? Eibar topping La Liga?

    This is what makes the PL so great
