Arsenal and Manchester United fans went into meltdown on Sunday night as Mesut Ozil assisted Bastian Schweinsteiger during Germany’s 2-0 defeat of Ukraine.

It was a hard-fought victory for Joachim Low’s side in their opening Group C fixture and they had to rely on defensive heroics from Jerome Boateng and Manuel Neuer at the Pierre-Mauroy Stadium in Lille.

Ozil had a relatively quiet game for the World Cup holders but provided a superb ball for United star Schweinsteiger on the counter-attack to double the Germans’ lead at the death.

Many German supporters questioned Low’s decision to select Schweinsteiger in his 23-man squad for the tournament but he appears to have repaid his manager already.

The 31-year-old midfielder has struggled to find his feet in England since arriving at Old Trafford last summer but he showed his class with an excellent finish.

Gooners and United fans were delighted…
