A state-backed Chinese investment group have shown an interest in a £700million purchase of Liverpool Football Club.

It is thought that current Reds owners Fenway are not keen on selling at present, as they are optimistic of a bright immediate future for the club under Jurgen Klopp.

Liverpool only finished 7th in the Premier League table in 2015/16, but got off to a slow start as they changed managers early on.

They remain an attractive proposition for buyers, with this interest in China also down to a strong Chinese community in the city.

According to the Independent, Fenway have been aware of the interest since March, but it remains to be seen if the club will change hands at this point.

More likely, the report says, is that the Chinese firm could make a part-investment in the team, with FSG still largely in control, but with an exit strategy in place.
