Manchester United and Arsenal target Henrikh Mkhitaryan will see out his contract at Borussia Dortmund, according to the German club’s chief executive Hans-Joachim Watzke.

Mkhitaryan still has one year remaining on his current deal at the Westfalenstadion but was offered an extension by Dortmund which he chose to reject.

Mino Raiola, Mkhitaryan’s agent, has claimed the 27-year-old midfielder would like to move on this summer and stated that his client would be interested in a possible move to Old Trafford.

However, speaking to ESPN, Watzke said: ‘We have been negotiating a new deal with Henrikh Mkhitaryan for four months.

‘We now know he won’t sign an extension. There was never a promise that he can leave us prematurely.

‘We have intensely discussed the question of an early transfer in all club bodies and came to the conclusion that Mkhitaryan will stay in Dortmund next season.’

It’s understood Arsenal are also very keen on the Armenia international and could rival the Red Devils for his signature ahead of the 2016/17 campaign.
