West Ham have rejected the chance to sign Robin van Persie, despite the former Arsenal captain’s offer to take a sizable pay cut, according to the Daily Mirror.

Despite a turbulent first season in Turkish football, the 32-year-old still registered 17 goals in all competitions having been deemed surplus to requirements by Louis van Gaal at Manchester United.

Earlier this week Fenerbahce president Aziz Yildirim claimed he was open to the idea of selling Van Persie, saying: ‘We’re waiting for buyers, if he wants to be sold.’

Van Persie is reported to have signed a three-year deal last summer worth a staggering £250,000-a-week, and although he is believed to be willing to take a drastic cut, West Ham are intent on chasing several other high-profile targets, instead.

The Hammers, who are due to play their first game at their new home, the Olympic Stadium, later this month, have been linked with a move for AC Milan’s Colombia international striker Carlos Bacca, while crowd favourite Carlos Tevez is said to be considering making an emotional return to east London.
