Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino has labeled his Premier league rivals ‘desperate’ after watching the big clubs spend mammoth amounts of money on transfers this summer.

Manchester United have spent £89million on just one player, Paul Pogba, while Manchester City broke the £120million mark in their spending spree with the £47.5million capture of John Stones.

The Spurs boss has overlooked a quiet transfer window at White Hart Lane in comparison with Victor Wanyama arriving from Southampton and striker Vincent Janssen joining from AZ Alkmaar for a combined fee of around £30million.

Liverpool and Arsenal have also splashed some serious cash since July and Pochettino believes it shows Tottenham’s rivals are ‘desperate’ to add some real quality to their sides ahead of the new season.

‘That shows when you spend a lot of money it is because you are not happy with your squad or your players and you are desperate to improve your squad,’ he said.

‘I am very happy with my players, I think it is very difficult to find better players than we have.’

Tottenham open their Premier League campaign against Everton on August 13th away at Goodison Park.
