Former Liverpool striker Ian Rush expects Joe Hart to learn a lot from his season-long loan move to Torino.

Hart, 29, joined the Italian club on transfer deadline day after seeing his playing options limited at Manchester City, following the arrival of new boss Pep Guardiola.

England's No 1 keeper was deemed surplus to requirements at the Etihad due to a perceived inability to play out from the back.

However, Rush, who spent one season at Torino's cross-city rivals Juventus, believes Hart will benefit from his loan move to Serie A this season.

Speaking to Sky Sports News HQ, he said: "I learned a lot - I think it's a great move for him.

"When I went to Italy with Juventus, I went as a boy and came back as a man. You've got to stand up for yourself."

Rush joined Juventus in 1986 for a then British record transfer fee of £3.2m and scored 14 goals in 39 games before re-joining Liverpool the following season.

The 54-year-old says Hart will need time to adapt to the atmosphere in Turin, where Torino are often overshadowed by their more illustrious neighbours.

"I think it's just getting used to the atmosphere there and the passion for football in Italy," he said.

"Juventus are the number one club in the country and their rivals so I think it's all about competing against Juventus in Turin."

Hart is set to start for England in Sunday's World Cup qualifier against Slovakia, before returning to Italy to join up with the Torino squad for the first time.

The former Shrewsbury Town keeper could then make his debut for Il Toro away to Atalanta on September 11.
