Nicklas Bendtner to Nottingham Forest: Latest Transfer Details and Reaction

Championship side Nottingham Forest confirmed the signing of Danish striker Nicklas Bendtner on Wednesday, with the 28-year-old penning a two-year deal at the City Ground having departed Wolfsburg as a free agent in April.

Forest owner and chairman Fawaz Al-Hasawi confirmed the signing of the former Arsenal star:

Bendtner could face his former club later this month when Forest host the Gunners in the third round of the EFL Cup on September 20.

He spent nine years with Arsenal between 2005 and 2014, netting 45 goals in 171 games, per BBC Sport.

During Bendtner's career in north London he was intermittently sent out on loan. He spent time with Juventus, Sunderland and, most pertinently for Forest, Birmingham City in 2006-07 as they won promotion to the Premier League—he scored 11 times for the Blues in 42 league appearances.

The Copenhagen-born striker joined Wolfsburg in 2014 from Arsenal but had his contract terminated 14 months early having failed to settle at the club and endured a miserable time in front of goal, per WhoScored.com:

Forest manager Philippe Montanier will hope that he can get Bendtner scoring again and help him make good on the potential he showed as a youngster at Arsenal.

The Reds sit seventh in the Championship after winning three of their opening five matches of the 2016-17 season.

Having finished 16th in England's second tier last term, they will need to improve dramatically to have any chance of returning to the Premier League for the first time since 1999—an in-form Bendtner would be helpful to their cause.
