Steven Gerrard has warned Liverpool fans to lay off Jurgen Klopp and promised the German will bring success back to Anfield.

Liverpool failed to apply pressure on league leaders Chelsea by succumbing to a shock 3-2 defeat against struggling Swansea on Saturday.

The Reds have now won just one of their last six games in all competitions, an FA Cup third round replay at League Two Plymouth, and fans are starting to sense the season will end without the trophy much of their football had promised during the early part of the campaign.

Klopp has thus far resisted the temptation to dip into the transfer market this month, but Gerrard, who returned to the club this week in a coaching capacity, insists the former Borussia Dortmund boss is a class act who will win silverware, whether he spends in what remains of the January window or not.

‘Klopp’s probably thinking I don’t want to waste my money in January if the right people are not there,’ Gerrard told BT Sport.

‘If Liverpool fans are losing trust in Jurgen Klopp right now it’s incredible.

‘For me we’re lucky to have him. He’s a world class manager. He’s going to bring success to this football club.’
