Gary Lineker branded Claudio Ranieri’s team selection as ‘utter bollocks’ and claimed the Italian’s obsession with the Champions League is the reason the club is in crisis.

Less than 12 months on from winning the Premier League the champions are staring relegation in the face and crashed out of the FA Cup on Saturday against 10-man Millwall of League One.

Ranieri shed his Tinkerman image last season, sticking to a tried and tested method, but has since reverted to type and was up to his old tricks at the New Den, making 10 changes to the side which lost 2-0 at Swansea a week ago.

Lineker felt so many changes were totally unnecessary, given Leicester still have four days to prepare for their Champions League last 16 first leg tie against Sevilla.

Leicester topped Group G with four wins from their six matches but are still heavy outsiders to make it past the Europa League holders who are flying high in La Liga and recently ended Real Madrid’s record unbeaten run.

While the Foxes have impressed in Europe this so far, they are just one point off the drop zone and have failed to score in any of their last six top flight matches.
