Leaked CCTV footage from a bar in Liverpool has appeared to show Everton midfielder Ross Barkley getting punched in the face.

The video, which is alleged to have been taken from Santa Chupitos in Liverpool’s city centre, shows Barkley talking to another man, who then hit the 23-year-old twice in the head before he was restrained.

The incident, which was leaked on social media, is believed to have occurred in the early hours of Monday morning.

Earlier on Sunday afternoon, Barkley had featured in Everton’s 4-2 victory over Leicester City at Goodison Park.

Merseyside Police have confirmed that they are reviewing the footage. Everton have also been approached for comment while Barkley’s lawyers released the following statement.

‘We can confirm Ross was the victim of an unprovoked attack by a stranger who approached him on Sunday evening.’

‘Merseyside Police is aware of footage online reportedly showing an assault in a bar in Liverpool city centre.

‘No report of an assault has been received but officers are making enquiries to establish the circumstances of the incident.’
