Manchester United look set to be without top scorer Zlatan Ibrahimovic for the rest of the season after a nasty-looking injury suffered against Anderlecht on Thursday night.

Jose Mourinho has had to contend with a number of niggling knocks to key players throughout this campaign, and is also likely to be without Juan Mata for the next few weeks.

Marcos Rojo also went off against Anderlecht yesterday, leaving United with a number of selection headaches as they prepare to take on Burnley in the Premier League this weekend.

Does Mourinho have the squad to cope with these latest blows? Here’s a look at how we think United should line up at Turf Moor – with what looks arguably like their strongest XI for the rest of the season if they don’t end up getting key players back…

With Rojo limping off against Anderlecht, United’s only current option to replace him is the substitute who came on for him on the night- Daley Blind.

Mourinho said today that Chris Smalling and Phil Jones were not yet ready to return, so this seems United’s best possible back four for the weekend, with Luke Shaw perhaps set to continue after some improved recent form and praise from his manager.

Further forward, United have options in midfield with either Paul Pogba pushed forward and Marouane Fellaini or Michael Carrick partnering Ander Herrera, but the best option might be to utilise Jesse Lingard in one of the three attacking roles.

The England wide-man recently got a new contract at Old Trafford, and while he’s no Mata, he has shown he has the trust of Mourinho and can provide goals and work rate on the big occasion. At this point, he’s also surely further up in the pecking order than Wayne Rooney in that area.

Ibrahimovic’s injury is a big blow for United, but Marcus Rashford’s performance last night can give fans plenty of encouragement as he comfortably out-shone the Swede all evening.

The 19-year-old was everywhere as he started in an attacking midfield role, and promptly scored United’s winner after being moved up front when Ibrahimovic went off injured.

Anthony Martial will also be in contention, but has not quite done enough to win over Mourinho this season, and should take on a supporting role as Rashford gets the chance to stake his claim as United’s first-choice striker between now and the end of the season.
