Arsenal legend Paul Merson believes Tottenham playmaker Christian Eriksen is a better player than Manchester United’s record signing Paul Pogba.

The Denmark international is one of the Premier League’s in-form players at the moment, having shone for Spurs in their eight-match winning run and their unlucky FA Cup semi-final defeat to Chelsea last week.

Eriksen will now take on Arsenal in this Sunday’s North London Derby, and ex-Gunner Merson admits he’s a huge fan of the 25-year-old, likening him to legendary Liverpool midfielder Steven Gerrard.

Pogba, on the other hand, has not impressed Merson as much after his eagerly-anticipated move from Juventus to Old Trafford in the summer.

‘I think he (Eriksen) is different class and massively underrated because he is up there with the very best. Look how many assists he has this season,’ Merson wrote in his Daily Star column.

‘He is the reason Dele Alli scores so many goals because he makes all his runs when Eriksen has the ball. His range of passing is phenomenal.

‘One of the balls he played at Wembley when Tottenham lost to Chelsea was out of this world. It was the kind of pass only someone like Steven Gerrard could play.

‘That’s the highest compliment I can pay him. In fact, Eriksen and Alli remind me of Gerrard and Fernando Torres at Liverpool.

‘If Paul Pogba is worth £90m then what’s Eriksen worth? He’s a better player. I’d buy him in a heartbeat.’
