Arsene Wenger has urged Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain to sign a new deal at Arsenal amid speculation he could join Liverpool in the summer transfer window.

Oxlade-Chamberlain has made 188 appearances for the Gunners since completing a £12million move from Southampton as a 17-year-old back in the summer of 2011.

Many have accused Oxlade-Chamberlain of failing to live his early potential but the England winger has been one of Arsenal’s standout performers in an otherwise disappointing campaign this term.

And, with one year remaining on his contract at the Emirates, Wenger sent a clear message to the 23-year-old at his Thursday press conference.

‘His performances have been convincing and positive,’ Wenger told the media ahead of Arsenal’s clash with Manchester United.

‘He looks like he’s made a move forward, I’m pleased with him.

‘I believe that he’s happy in his new position at the moment he’s convinced that he has all the qualities to play there and it’s given him confidence.

He has to commit his future to the club and hopefully he’ll do so in the summer.’
