Manchester United’s already desperate injury problems became even worse during their match with Celta Vigo on Thursday with Ashley Young and Marcus Rashford going off injured.

Jose Mourinho had already been dealing with a number of crocked players, particularly in defence.

Phil Jones, Eric Bailly, Marcos Rojo, Luke Shaw, Chris Smalling, Tim Fosu-Mensah, Juan Mata, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Paul Pogba are either injured or just returning to action.

Rashford and Young can now be added to the huge list of those who are fitness concerns.

Rashford was replaced in the 80th minute by Anthony Martial after the teenager took a slight knock. He took an age to hobble from the pitch as he was substituted.

‘He started with a little problem,’ Mourinho said after the match. ‘Obviously with the running and the continuity he felt it.’

Meanwhile Young was taken off in the 89th minute – just 11 minutes after coming on as a substitute himself. ‘It has to be a serious injury,’ Michael Owen said on BT Sport. ‘I would suggest that’s a muscle injury. A minimum of two-three weeks’.

Mourinho will hope the problems are not serious with the second-leg of their semi-final against Celta Vigo at Old Trafford next Thursday and a Premier League clash at Arsenal on Sunday.
