Ryan Giggs believes his former club Manchester United should try to sign Alexis Sanchez from Arsenal.

Sanchez has been tipped to leave the Emirates this summer after being involved in a contract stand-off with the Gunners.

The Chilean will have 12 months remaining on his current contract at the end of the season but is still no closer to agreeing terms on a new deal.

Amid speculation over his future, Chelsea and Manchester City have emerged as potential suitors to Sanchez, who has scored 21 goals in the Premier League this season.

Man United legend Giggs has heaped praise on the 28-year-old and says Sanchez would be a welcome addition at Old Trafford.

‘He’s a brilliant player. His work-rate, the effect he has on his team-mates, [he’s a] winner,’ Giggs said.

‘He just looks how South Americans are, tough aren’t they.’

Asked if he could see Sanchez at the Theatre of Dreams, Giggs added: ‘Yeah. Jose Mourinho bought [Zlatan] Ibrahimovic because he is a winner.

‘He’d won everywhere he’d gone. It’s not only the effect on the pitch but off the pitch as well.

‘You can just feel that Sanchez would give his team-mates a lift.’

Giggs became the most decorated player in football history during his 24-year stint at United, helping the club win 13 titles, four FA Cups and the Champions League twice.
