Manchester United youngster Marcus Rashford has heaped praise on Jose Mourinho for the way he’s handled him at this crucial stage of his development this season.

The Portuguese arrived at Old Trafford with a reputation for preferring experienced big names to academy products, but he’s shown a change in his ways with his new club.

Despite the summer signing of veteran forward Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Rashford has seen plenty of playing time and has enjoyed a good run of games up front recently.

Speaking about the way he’s improved this season, the 19-year-old was quick to hail Mourinho’s impact for making him work for his place in the team.

Asked about Mourinho’s recent public praise of him, he said: ‘It’s a massive thing when a manager like him says that. The best thing about it is that you’ve earned it.

‘He didn’t just come in and say “there you go – play every game”. He’s made us all work for his trust and respect.
