Match ends, Rangers 1, Aberdeen 2.
Aberdeen secured their first win at Ibrox since 1991 as Rangers lost their final home match of the season.
Graeme Shinnie drove through the home defence to slot in the Dons' opener.
Goalkeeper Wes Foderingham denied Ash Taylor, Niall McGinn and Adam Rooney as the visitors continued to threaten and Ryan Christie headed their second.
Substitute Martyn Waghorn replied for the hosts before the Dons had Jayden Stockley sent off for two bookings but Aberdeen saw out victory.
They had all but secured the runners-up spot but the result at Ibrox ensured the Pittodrie side will finish second to Premiership winners Celtic for the third season running.
Dons boss Derek McInnes had said before the match his former club Rangers "should probably be embarrassed that they've not finished second" owing to the Glasgow side's greater financial clout.
And Aberdeen's determination to end their long wait for a victory at Ibrox was evident early on as Shinnie stole possession, evaded defenders and fired low past Foderingham.
The visitors may have added to their lead in the opening period. Christie claimed he was impeded in the box by Rangers' teenage debutant defender Aidan Wilson and efforts by Taylor and Rooney were blocked by Foderingham before McGinn's free-kick was also saved.
Joe Garner was off target with a couple of efforts as Rangers tried to draw level and Barrie McKay fired wide of Joe Lewis's goal.
The hosts had been forced into a first-half change when full-back Lee Hodson made way for Myles Beerman and manager Pedro Caixinha sent on forward Waghorn in place of Joe Dodoo at the break.
But Aberdeen's dominance continued with McGinn and Rooney forcing saves from Foderingham in quick succession.
Then, on-loan Celtic midfielder Christie looped a header into the net from close range following Rooney's headed knock down.
Rangers were soon back in the match, however, with Josh Windass slipping the ball to Waghorn to stroke past Lewis.
But an equaliser never materialised, despite chances for Garner and McKay - the latter also having an unsuccessful penalty claim - and Rooney's replacement Stockley being dismissed in the final minute of regulation time.

Well done Aberdeen. Well done.
They have a bright future should they continue to make progress on the basis of living within their means.
Summer qualifiers can be tricky but I fancy them to make it
Ye ragin mate?
With a budget of less than a tenth of Celtic's (and about a third of Rangers) I would say Aberdeen have done well to even get close to Celtic in recent years.
Enjoy finishing behind Celtic for the next 5 years at least.
In truth Aberdeen should have had 4 or 5 if it wasn't for their best player the keeper.
btw Stockley deserved to go, he's talentless & a dirty player, in fact he'll probably be at Ibrox next year.
2nd place for the Dons again next year, easy peesy lemon squeezy. Should be some quality additions this summer from MacInnes, and hopefully Europa League group stages to look forward to.
You, your team and your fans are irrelevant. Aberdeen have been fantastic given their budget and the fact that they have complied with UEFA FFP rules.
Next season you will be playing at Hampden in front of 10,000 fans with kenny Miller as player manager.
Looking forward to the cup final !!
Back then our league was competitive and exciting and all the top Scottish teams could compete in Europe. Our National Team was good but often underperformed.
Now our league is boring and the group stages in Europe are an achievement for any of our teams. The National Team is a joke.
Where did it all go wrong?
As usual we made it harder than it should have been but thats second sorted tied up so means we can play the youths at weekend and give the lads a rest.
Think Shinnie has replaced Ando as my hero.
this team not a patch on the mighty celtic
and all rangers fans commenting on this thread please support a real team like Aberdeen hahahaha
