Claudio Ranieri claims getting Anthony Martial to join Monaco was the best signing of his career.

The Italian was the man who brought Frank Lampard to Chelsea in 2001, and was in charge in the summer of 2015 when Leicester City signed N’Golo Kante from Caen.

Although Lampard won no trophies under Ranieri, the former England midfielder went on to win three Premier League titles and the Champions League with Chelsea.

Lampard also remains the Premier League’s highest ever scoring midfielder with 177 goals.

Kante, meanwhile, was signed for just £5.6 million but was a key figure in Leicester City’s title success under Ranieri.

But the Italian believes Monaco’s deal to sign Martial from Lyon tops the lot.

‘I think the best was Martial for Monaco,’ Ranieri told Sky Sports.

‘We buy him for five million and sell for 60.’

Ranieri also recalled the criticism he was given after signing Lampard from West Ham: ‘When I bought Lampard, a lot of people said that I had spent too much money on him.

‘By the end, it looks cheap.’
