Another familiar face for Manchester United was spotted at the Friends Arena as Louis van Gaal watched both of his former sides battle it out in the Europa League final.

But even before the match had begun, the Dutchman was involved in his own struggle as he was mobbed by fans as he was making his way to the stadium.

Van Gaal, who has been out of work since he was sacked by United last May, was happy to pose for photos with fans outside the ground.

But after finding his seat inside the Friends Arena, supporters still queued up to get a snap and an autograph with the 65-year-old.

Van Gaal ended his two-year reign at United by winning the FA Cup but a poor campaign in the Premier League left the club in this season’s Europa League.

The Dutchman’s managerial career at Ajax was much more successful as he won the Eredivisie three times and guided the club to victory in the Champions League in 1995.
