Huddersfield Town beat Reading on penalties to secure promotion to the Premier League.

David Wagner’s side, who finished fifth in the Championship during the regular campaign, defeated the Royals 4-3 in a dramatic penalty shootout.

Christopher Schindler was the hero, with the German slotting past Ali Al-Habsi to earn victory after the game finished goalless after 120 minutes.

Huddersfield should have went ahead in the first-half at Wembley but Chelsea loanee Izzy Brown missed an open goal.

Town were denied a strong penalty appeal after the break before both sides wasted opportunities to settle the tie within the 90 minutes.

The scrappy affair continued into extra-time and Nakhi Wells dragged a glorious chance wide with just minutes remaining.

In the penalty shootout, veteran goalkeeper Al-Habsi denied Joey van den Berg before Liam Moore clipped the crossbar.

And it was left to 27-year-old German Schindler to secure promotion and a £170million uplift in revenue for Huddersfield.
