Arsenal legend Martin Keown has revealed he told Danny Welbeck that his FA Cup final performance against Chelsea reminded him of all-time Gunners great Thierry Henry.
The England striker made a surprise start up front for Arsenal against Chelsea on Saturday, and put in a great shift to help the club to a vital 2-1 win at Wembley.
Although Welbeck did not get on the score sheet on the day, Keown was hugely impressed by the way his pace stretched the Blues’ defence throughout the game.
The former defender spoke to Welbeck afterwards and paid him the ultimate compliment by hailing his performance as reminiscent of Henry.
‘I said to Danny Welbeck afterwards that at times he reminded me of Thierry Henry,’ Keown told the Daily Mail.
‘He was too quick for Chelsea and kept stretching David Luiz into those channels.
‘Welbeck gave Arsenal extra energy in both directions.’
