Liverpool are willing to offer Virgil van Dijk a similar financial package to that of Chelsea and Manchester City as Jurgen Klopp looks to win the race to sign the Southampton man.

Van Dijk has emerged as a key target for a host of Premier League clubs despite missing much of the recent campaign due to injury.

The Saints are said to understand that his departure is more or less inevitable, although they hope to land more than £50million for his services.

Reports from this weekend suggested City were frontrunners in the race to sign van Dijk, with a deal worth around £200,000-a-week agreed.

However, the Liverpool Echo say his future remains up in the air, with the Reds still determined to land the former Celtic defender.

It is claimed Liverpool are prepared to match their rivals’ contract offers and plan to convince van Dijk that his next destination should be Anfield.

As the three Premier League clubs have made their interest known to van Dijk, it is believed the decision will ultimately be made by the player himself.
