Harry Kane came to England’s rescue with an injury team equaliser against Scotland, saving Joe Hart’s blushes.

Scotland looked set to pull off the most unlikeliest of victories after Leigh Griffiths scored two late free kicks in the space of three minutes, his first international goals at the 13th attempt, to turn the World Cup qualifier at Hampden Park on its head.

The Celtic striker rightly earned credit for his technique and execution, but a goalkeeper of Hart’s supposed class should not have been beaten from that distance twice in quick succession, with his positioning suspect on both occasions.

Hart has spent a season on loan at Torino after he was axed by Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola at the beginning of last season and, despite failing to fully convince in Serie A, has been linked with a summer move to Liverpool.
