Zlatan Ibrahimovic has chosen to join LA Galaxy and could sign a contract with the MLS club this month after being released by Manchester United.

The 35-year-old is out of contract at Old Trafford and the Premier League’s retained squad list showed that United had opted against giving the Swede a new deal.

Ibrahimovic tore his anterior and posterior cruciate ligaments in a devastating injury against Anderlecht in the Europa League in March.

United had planned on signing Atletico Madrid attacker Antoine Griezmann but are now prioritising a traditional central forward because of Ibrahimovic’s injury.

The former Paris Saint-Germain star has shown remarkable signs of recovery and MLS franchise LA Galaxy are confident that he can return to a strong level after his lay-off.

According to Marca, the Swede had already agreed a deal in principle with LA Galaxy before his injury and will now sign a deal with the club after his option of staying at United was withdrawn.

Ibrahimovic is expected to return to action in 2018 and could have a full pre-season before the MLS season restarts in March.
