Tottenham are looking to hijack Arsenal’s deal for Nice star Jean Michael Seri and have already held talks with the player’s representatives regarding a summer transfer.

The dynamic midfielder had been high up Arsene Wenger’s wish list, and the veteran manager was even spotted in Nice with Arsenal chief executive Ivan Gazidis as they looked to rattle out a deal.

But now RMC report that Tottenham have entered the race for Seri’s signature, and, unlike the Gunners, would be able to offer Champions League football next season.

It is claimed that Spurs have opened discussions with Seri’s entourage as they look to persuade him to snub Arsenal, while they have also made an enquiry to Nice for the player.

But both Spurs and Arsenal face further competition for the talented midfielder in the form of Roma, whose new sporting director Monchi has made Seri his No.1 target.

They have already offered €25 million (£22m), but Nice say they will only accept his €40m release clause, while Barcelona and Beijing Guoan are also interested.

Tottenham’s new chief scout Steve Hitchen is an expert on Ligue 1 talent, and Seri is not the only Nice player he is rumoured to be interested in.

Spurs are also hoping to land Ricardo Pereira as a replacement for Kyle Walker should he join Manchester City, with the attack-minded full-back having been on loan at Nice for the last two seasons from Porto.
