Arsenal bid £10million for Fenerbahce defender Simon Kjaer according to reports in Turkey

Arsene Wenger has already added defender Sead Kolasinac to his squad ahead of the Europa League campaign

ARSENAL have made a £10million offer for Fenerbahce’s Denmark defender Simon Kjaer, according to reports in Turkey.

The fifth-placed Gunners conceded 44 Premier League goals last season, 18 more than Tottenham in second and 15 more Manchester United who collected six fewer points.

Defensive frailty is a reoccurring problem for Arsene Wenger, who seems to roll out a porous backline each season despite having Gunners hero and ex-defender Steve Bould alongside him.

Injury restricted 32-year-old Per Mertesacker to just one start last season – but the giant German managed a man-of-the-match performance to win the FA Cup final.

Calum Chambers and Carl Jenkinson have been loaned out after failing to convince, Gabriel has not been helped by injuries and suspensions and Shkrodan Mustafi has rarely looked worth £35m.

Laurent Koscielny is the most reliable centre-back and 21-year-old Rob Holding has shown plenty of potential.

Now former Lille and Palermo man Kjaer has been linked to the Emirates side by TurksVoetbal.

Liverpool have kept an eye on the 28-year-old in the past and they were quoted £17.5m, meaning Arsene Wenger will have to flash more cash to get his man.

Kjaer finished the Turkish Super League season with three goals and one assist in 43 games for the Istanbul giants.

The defender’s current deal  runs until June 2019 but they appear to have already lined up a replacement in Barcelona man Jeremy Mathieu.

Kjaer played against Manchester United in the Europa League last season and was involved in an angry confrontation with Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

Wenger has started his squad overhaul all after landing defender Sead Kolasinac at the start of June.
