Nacho Monreal says he has not spoken to Hector Bellerin about his transfer situation this summer, but expects him to stay at Arsenal instead of leave for Barcelona.

The Spain international has been strongly linked with a return to the Nou Camp after leaving their academy to join the Gunners earlier in his career, but recently himself hinted there was nothing to the speculation.

Arsenal are already facing doubts over the futures of star names Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil, so could do without a fight over Bellerin as well at this stage.

However, Monreal doesn’t seem too concerned as he expects his fellow countryman will almost certainly stay put at the Emirates Stadium.

‘He’s an Arsenal player and almost certainly he will continue here,’ the 31-year-old told Mundo Deportivo.

‘Hector is a very important player for us and the boss has already reiterated that he counts on him.

‘Now they will have to negotiate between the clubs and we will see what happen but almost for sure he will continue with us.’

Asked if he’d heard anything from the man himself over a potential move, Monreal said: ‘He has not told me anything.

‘Hector is a good player in any team. Barca are looking for a player in that position and, following his performances with Arsenal, it’s logical they have set their eyes on him.

‘He is a young player, but he shows a impressive maturity for his age and he is doing very well at Arsenal.’
