Lionel Messi has laughed off suggestions that he, Cesc Fabregas, Luis Suarez and their partners racked up a €37,330 (£32,630) bill during dinner in Ibiza.

A picture of a stunningly expensive receipt was shared on social media and quickly went viral. It was suggested that it had been racked up by the Barcelona star’s group during a recent holiday on the Balearic island.

However there were immediately doubts that there was any truth to it.

Included on the bill were 27 pizzas, seven burgers and 41 bottles of champagne.

Even if Messi, Suarez and Fabregas, plus their respective partners, Antonella Roccuzzo, Sofia Balbi and Daniella Semaan had been feeling extremely hungry and incredibly thirsty, that seems a little too much.

And now Messi has confirmed that the bill was not theirs.

The Argentina star commented on an Instagram post which carried an image of his group enjoying their night out in Ibiza alongside the bill.

He wrote: ‘Jajajajajajajaja que manera de hablar al pedo. Como inventan. lo mas lindo es que la gente se lo cree.’

Translated into English, it reads: ‘Hahahahahahaha, what a way to talk s***. How they invent. The most cute thing is that people believe it.’

Juezcentral, who shared the image on Instagram, have since deleted the post but not before Messi’s response picked up a ton of likes.
