Former Chelsea star Oscar sparked a 50-man brawl during a Chinese Super League match between Guangzhou and Shanghai SIPG this weekend that resulted in two players being sent off.

With the scores locked at 1-1, the SIPG midfielder intercepted the ball on the half-way line before smashing the ball at his opponent.

When the ball bounced back to him he smashed it again in the opposite direction – hitting the midriff of another Guangzhou player.

The incident sparked fury, with Oscar being pushed to the floor and the majority of the 22 players on the pitch – as well substitutes and coaching staff – then coming together.

Footage of the incident shows a round of pushing and shoving although no punches appear to be thrown.

Nevertheless, Oscar’s teammate Fu Huan saw red, as did Guangzhou’s Li Tixiang.

‘I never allow my players to play so dirty. We respect our opponents, spectators and referees,’ said Dragan Stojkovic, the Guangzhou coach.

‘Justice will prevail. I believe everybody saw what happened and I saw quite clearly what happened.’

Oscar was not punished for his role in the melee.

The match ended in a 1-1 draw.
