Monaco midfielder Fabinho admits he would be ‘tempted’ by the chance to join up with Jose Mourinho at Manchester United.

On Thursday, reports in Italy claimed that United have reached an initial agreement with the Ligue 1 champions over a €40m (£35.2m) deal for the Brazilian.

Fabinho has also attracted interest from Juventus after his impressive performances in central midfield helped guide Monaco to the Ligue 1 title and the semi-final of the Champions League last season.

But when asked about the prospect of joining United this summer, Fabinho told Esporte Interativo: ‘It’s a tempting invitation.

‘I would first talk to my agent, Monaco too, to decide everything right. But it’s a great club, sure enough I would think well about it.’

Mourinho remains in the market for a new central midfielder and Fabinho’s defensive qualities would fit the profile of player United are targeting.

United have also been linked with a bid for Nemanja Matic especially if Chelsea press ahead with the signing of Fabinho’s Monaco team-mate Tiemoue Bakayoko.

Elsewhere, Renato Sanches, who Mourinho missed out on signing last year, has had his asking price lowered by Bayern Munich.
